Danish painter, sculptor, ceramicist, and author Asger Jorn was a founding member of CoBrA—although these works dating from 1945 were done before the group was formed. Jorn became one of the major expressionist artists of the period following World War II. The artists James Ensor and Paul Klee provided strong early influences for his work. Jorn has always been committed to art as an immediate, existentialist activity and opposed to a rational, constructivist approach.
