Although he hailed from Britain, Alfred Sisley was one of the principle French Impressionists. His career began in 1862 at the Parisian studio of noted instructor Charles Gleyre, where he met fellow Impressionists Claude Monet, Frédéric Bazille, and Auguste Renoir. He adopted a painting style similar to that of Monet, depicting primarily landscapes of the French countryside, like this one of Veneux les Sablons, Fontainebleau (Sisley’s home in 1883).
