One question that is often asked is why do some artists choose vitreography over other types of printmaking? Some enjoy that glass is mostly inert, or not chemically reactive, so it does not oxidize or interfere with printing inks like some metal printmaking plates will. One of the other appealing aspects of this printing process is that glass can withstand an enormous amount of pressure, so as long as the printing process is completed accurately the plate will not break and it does not wear down as quickly as a material like wood. Some artists like the versatility of the glass plate because it can be both an intaglio and planographic process which gives artists a lot of creative flexibility.
