When she wasn’t photographing Frida Kahlo or assisting Diego Rivera on his murals, artist Lucienne Bloch was creating prints of the people, places, and things in her life. Bloch must have had a fondness for cats as they show up frequently in her works on paper. In the 1940s she and her husband, Stephen Pope Dimitroff, lived in Flint, both teaching art classes at the Flint Institute of Arts.
A local artist, Lucienne Bloch took advantage of the rich artistic environment of the 1930s here in southeast Michigan. When not assisting Diego Rivera on the Detroit Institute of Arts industry frescoes, Bloch made lithographs with Frida Kahlo. She earned herself international recognition, winning the Gold Medal for Lithography at the Exposition des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, 1937. Later, she also taught at the Flint Institute of Arts Museum School ca. 1941-45.
