The French term entrefenêtre (literally, “between window”) refers to a tapestry designed to hang in the space between two windows on an interior wall. Given the resemblance of Armida’s dress and the carved details of her chariot to the corresponding elements in the preceding tapestry (no. 2), the subject here continues the same scene and represents Armida driving her chariot to the enchanted island with Rinaldo.
