The subject of work is today and has been throughout history a common theme. Unlike other artists who seek to depict the indigenous environment and customs of a specific place, Aponte presents us with an image of a nonspecific time or place. The men are workers, but they are not posed for propagandist purposes or for encouragement of national pride, but rather are representations of a theme explored throughout time.
