We see in this image an imagined landscape created by the artist to represent El Salvador. Unlike many other Latin American and Mexican artists who seek to accurately depict the indigenous culture and people found in their surrounding environment, Santonastasio conveys mystical, political and religious sensations juxtaposed together to symbolically illustrate a time and place to evoke a sense of disorientation and awe in the viewer.
