The Zulu people have a reputation as fearless fighters and formidable military strategists. During the nineteenth century, King Shaka united the Zulu peoples and recruited young men to be trained as fierce warriors. After defeating competing armies and assimilating their people, Shaka created one of the mightiest empires in Africa’s history. The engravings on this powder horn tell the story of a battle from the Zulu people’s point of view.
