Abe Ajay was one of the important American artists working in constructions and collages during the last 40 years. Ajay acknowledged that his works might bring to mind medieval architecture, however, he maintained throughout his career a stringent constructivist perspective that favored attention to form over content. In 1984, he wrote, "invoke no subject matter except that of imaginary landscapes or invented architecture."
Ajay's work was the subject of numerous reviews in Art in America, Arts Magazine, Artnews, and the New York Times. His work has been acquired by many important public collections including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, the Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
