Ovid, poet of the Roman Empire, was sent into exile by Emperor Augustus in 8 CE. The reason for his exile is a great mystery. The poet himself said it was due to carmen et error—carmen means "poem" in Latin. The poem in question is Ars Amatoria, three books written as a dating manual or relationship guide for men and women.
