Born in Israel, the son of a rabbi, Agam studied industrial art briefly at the Bezaleal School in Jerusalem, his only formal art training. Among early influences were Vassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), a Russian artist and pioneer in abstract painting, and Swiss artist Siegfried Gideon which he came to know during the two years he spent in Zurich (1949-51).
From the beginning of his career, his interest has been in kinetic, movable, and transferable works. His various constructions rotate, slide, vibrate, and emit different angles, which can also been seen in this serigraph on paper entitled Male. He has extended his experiments to include architecture, literature, music and theater.
