Polish-born Kolasinski’s multimedia installations are rooted in his experience of living in the “Old World” of Europe and the “New World” of the U.S. Civitas is a small-scale representation of a medieval town destroyed by fire, which serves as a parable describing the contemporary devaluation of social institutions such as family and religion.
