The ridges created along the edge of this figure’s ears are commonly found in Pre-Columbian art from Mexico. They represent holes that would have been adorned with string or multiple metal earrings. The lines around the mouth and along the ribs may indicate scarification, also a common practice in early Mexican civilizations.
