Gross was initially educated as an architect, at the Haifa Technion, Israel and later as an artist, at the Academie des Beaux Arts in Paris. In the year 2000 he was awarded the prestigious Israeli Prize for Sculpture. His work is generally considered minimalist, though many of his works have great similarities to Abstract Expressionism and the Color Field painters. In Landscape, a field of ochre is broken by gestures of black and dotted with a row of yellow and orange elements bringing to mind a desert landscape.
