In this work, Alberto Cambi captures in the rigid medium of marble the liveliness and joy of a young girl dancing. In the middle of the nineteenth century, many artists started to depict the lives of everyday people in genre scenes. This figure was neither goddess nor heroine, yet Cambi elevates her to that level both in her classical pose and through the ancient medium of marble.
