John Rogers, formally trained as a machinist and master mechanic, began to create statuettes in his spare time. Not pleased with academic sculpture he created inexpensive sculpture out of plaster that the middle and lower classes could understand and relate to. These works were scenes from contemporary literature and everyday life. Coming to the Parsons, is John Rogers’ most popular depiction of a genre scene.
