As the son of a studio glass movement pioneer, Dante Marioni began working with glass at the age of nine. Since then Marioni has been driven by the art of glassblowing in the Italian tradition, placing an emphasis on the process itself. Using ancient Greek forms as his inspiration, Marioni adds a playful and contemporary spin to classical vessels with his bold and primary colors. Most of the forms he chooses are utilitarian in nature, but he challenges viewer’s perceptions by increasing their scale and incorporating the decorative brilliance that has defined glassmaking for centuries.
