Michael Lucero creates imaginative, colorful sculptures elaborately painted with dreamlike, surreal elements. While studying ceramics in school, Lucero explored the possibilities of painting on a three-dimensional surface. Since then he has used glaze as paint in nearly all of his works. In this work, he takes found objects, ranging from lawn ornaments to kitsch, and assembles them together to create a new form entirely.
Born in California, Lucero earned a BA degree from Humboldt State University and an MFA from University of Washington in Seattle.
