An Epitaph
One day
Glancing eastward on a soft September morning
Just before the end of leaf-fall
I shall open out of season
Like a glory in the green-grey morning
And take the landscape into me.
Shimmering, mist-like
Through the last pale leaves of yellow aspen
I shall settle in the valley
Seeming there
A lake among trees.
Sid Hammer
