Christopher Vicini’s work has been strongly influenced by nature and his love for flora and fauna is evident in this fantastical sculpture. His most ambitious works are large groupings of individual sculptures, like this, that all connect to the overarching theme. The works in this series are part of an alternate world that Vicini relates to Norse mythology. He imagines a 10th addition to the Norse universe called Idiotheim. Where Asgaard is the home of the gods, Idiotheim is the home of a world ruled by fools. Here, Vicini suggests that insanity triumphs over reason and chaos prevails. The odd, obscure, and erratic are depicted in delicate porcelain, perhaps referencing the fragile nature of human behavior. Vicini has his BFA from Wheaton College in Massachusetts and MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island.
