Transparency and translucency have been key elements in Vladimir Bachorik’s artwork since his time at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague. According to the artist he emphasizes simple shapes that have a level of translucency so he can create a relationship between the internal and the external. In Admittance light filters through the hazy layers of glass and illuminates the shapes within shapes that make up this complex sculpture. The capacity for cast glass to manipulate light and appear weightless while actually being quite solid was the reason Bachorik was drawn to this method over glassblowing. Shapes, opacity, and density change under various angles of light and continually transform the glass—for Bachorik, this is a metaphor for life.
