Sabrina Knowles and Jenny Pohlman met as students at Pilchuck Glass School and have been collaborating for more than twenty years. Through the course of their partnership they have spent ten years traveling through Africa and Southeast Asia: meeting people, learning about their histories, spiritual beliefs, and cultures. According to the artists, their inspiration comes from their travels, day-to-day life, and interest in ancient and contemporary cultures with an emphasis on women. Not only do they utilize many different processes, such as blowing, carving, and sandblasting glass, they often include other materials to enhance their vision. This piece incorporates beads, wire, and seed-pods. Walk around and see the small details they have added, including two small faces near the top on each side of this artwork.
