Paul Stankard began his glassmaking career as an industrial glass blower, creating scientific equipment. Today he is known as a master in the art of paperweights. With inspiration from nature and its subsequent decay, Stankard depicts a face entangled in roots with nature’s bounty stemming from its head. Another face, which looks more otherworldly, floats above the natural realm below. Both elements reflect different aspects of life, with the root figure representing earthly abundance and the other a higher, spiritual realm.
