Toots Zynsky created this work using a technique she invented called “filet de verre.” Using thin glass threads made from a thread-pulling machine, Zynsky layers thousands of these threads together on a heat-resistant plate. The glass threads are then fused together with heat inside the kiln into the artist’s signature forms. The final product is an abstract piece that has the appearance of brushstrokes, as if the surface has been painted.
