Like other sculptures by Ivan Mareš, this work is a solid piece of cast glass, decorated with natural looking, yet abstract details that look like cocoons, haystacks, bird wings, or in this case, perhaps foliage around a secret garden.
After attending the Specialized School of Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov, as well as the Academy of Art and Design in Prague, Mareš studied with fellow Czech artists Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychotvá. The husband-wife duo were pioneers in the use of cast glass as a material for large-scale sculpture, a technique that Mareš continues to use.
