Though this work is a traditional vessel, its deeply carved lines create an undulating surface that translates into a more sculptural form. According to Judy Tavill: " I feel drawn to clay as a medium because of its unique malleability which allows surface and structure to meld together in the creation of a piece. Coastal discoveries, woodland finds, and lush flora influence my current creative process."
Tavill is a studio ceramicist based on the shore of New Jersey. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she received her BFA in Fashion Design from the Washington University in Saint Louis. She left her career in fashion to pursue her art interests and after delving into various mediums, she found clay.
